New Partnership Supports Cape Breton Seniors: Give back on July 13
The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation’s Geriatric Fund will grow next week when it teams up with Home Instead Charities for the annual Give 65 fundraiser – the first and only crowd-fundraising platform exclusively devoted to helping charities raise money for seniors’ programs and services.
On Tuesday, 13 July, the Foundation begins a vigorous, 65-hour, online fundraising campaign for a chance to have donations matched by Home Instead Charities to a total of five thousand dollars. There are bonus grants for the most unique donors and most funds raised.
“We are honoured to have the chance to receive funding to better serve geriatric residents in Cape Breton”, says Angela Stairs, Director of Rehabilitative, Seniors and Long Term Care, NSH Eastern Zone. “The needs of our seniors are great and diverse and not expected to decline anytime soon. This fundraiser will help meet those needs.”
“It’s a great opportunity for our Foundation,” says Cheryl Marsh, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation’s Manager of Philanthropy. “The pandemic put a stop to many community-led fundraisers, which account for almost 25 percent of our donations, so this safe, online option has come along at a key time. As long as we do our part to connect with donors, we’re in a great position for Home Instead Charities to provide matching funds.”
With the funds raised from the Give 65 event, the Foundation hopes to work with Angela and her team to purchase elder-friendly outdoor and recreational furniture.
“Anytime we can bring money into our community, especially for seniors, we have to act,” says Chris Robertson, owner of Home Instead Cape Breton. “This is year three for Give 65 and Home Instead’s matching of donations has already helped local seniors,” he said, noting that MacGillivray Guest Home purchased a new accessible bus ahead of schedule last year because of its participation in Give 65. The 65-hour window of opportunity to donate to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation’s geriatric fund begins at 10am Tuesday, July 13, and continues until 3am on Friday, July 16. Between July 13-16, 2021, give back to our Foundation’s Geriatric Fund and the senior residents of Cape Breton, because you care.
