New Fund to provide Comfort and Care to those experiencing Miscarriage
Today, on the national day for pregnancy and infant loss remembrance, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation is proud to launch a new fundraising initiative called Forget Me Not Packages.
The fundraising initiative was founded by Petra Buis of River Ryan, after she and her fiancé experienced three losses through miscarriage.
“The grief Andrew and I felt in the moments after loss was almost unbearable,” says Petra Buis, Founder of Forget Me Not Packages. “My goal is to help those experiencing such a loss feel less alone, during a time when it feels like no one understands.”
The Forget Me Not Package initiative has a goal of raising $5,000 to purchase simple comfort items to give to those experiencing loss through miscarriage, here in Cape Breton. Packages will include items like Tylenol, pads, treats, hot/cold compresses and more, as well as women’s health and mental health-related resources.
“Canadian statistics show that one in four pregnancies will end in miscarriage,” says Cheryl Marsh, the Foundation’s Manager of Philanthropy. “We are grateful for community leaders, like Petra, for seeing a need and working with our Foundation to provide comfort and care to those grieving such a loss.”
