Radio Day raises 1.3 million, brings portable ultrasound machines to Cape Breton Regional Hospital

The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation’s 17th annual Radio Day took place yesterday, and broke records, raising $1,315,704.60 for health care in Cape Breton.

This fundraising milestone now brings the event’s historical total to over $12.6 million.

The 12-hour radiothon, hosted in partnership with Hot 101.9 and New Country 103.5, celebrates community fundraisers and their totals achieved in support of the Foundation in 2024. Additionally, a portion of funds raised will go directly toward the purchase of four new portable ultrasound machines for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

The machines, which will be used throughout the Emergency Department, Cardiac Services, and Intensive and Critical Care, will impact more than 6,000 patients annually.

From trauma patients arriving to the emergency room, intensive care patients needing life-saving medications, to cardiac patients presenting with unidentified heart complications, and more, portable ultrasound machines allow health care experts to make faster decisions and to provide more precise treatments.

“Last year we had a record-breaking Radio Day, and I am amazed to say that this year broke records once again!” says Paula MacNeil, CEO of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. “Radio Day is one of our favourite days of the year here at the Foundation. It truly showcases the power of community and what we can achieve when we work together in alignment. I am proud and humbled to see the good people of Cape Breton come together to bring this important equipment to our island’s regional hospital and its health care experts.”

Hundreds of individual donors and more than 80 volunteers helped to make Radio Day 2024 a resounding success.

Additionally, the Foundation’s annual Radio Day Power Hour partners, MECO Construction DKI, Schwartz Furniture and Jim Sampson Motors, kept commitments to match all donations up to $12,500 each. For the second year in a row, C.S. Boudreau Holdings Ltd. matched $10,000 in online donations.

“This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for the community of Cape Breton,” says Paul MacNeil, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation.
