Celebrating another record fundraising year

The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation celebrated another milestone year during its Annual General Meeting, held Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Foundation reported record-breaking fundraising results, raising $4.81 million in 2025 to support priority health care needs across Cape Breton Island (fundraising total in 2024: $4.49 million, 2023: $4.25 million, 2022: $4.21 million).
“This year’s results are a powerful reflection of what’s possible when a community comes together with shared purpose,” says Brian Purchase, outgoing Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. “As I reflect on my final year as Chair of the Board, I’m filled with the utmost gratitude for our small yet mighty community – thank you!”
The year also marked one of the largest disbursement totals in the Foundation’s history, with $2.3 million invested in local health care, $300,000 more than the previous year.
These funds supported upgrades to two hospital spaces; professional development and research grants for 37 health care experts; the purchase of 22 pieces of medical equipment; and direct financial support for 5,227 Cape Bretoners, nearly double the number from the previous year.
“While we are beyond proud of what has been accomplished in 2025, we know there is more to be done,” says Paula MacNeil, Foundation CEO. “The needs within our health care system continue to grow and evolve, and with them, so does our commitment to respond with innovation, compassion, and determination.”
The Foundation’s milestone funds were raised via their signature fundraising events, Radio Day, Golf Because You Care, and Festival of the Greens; by 64 community-led fundraisers; 4 gifts left in wills; 10 community grants; support from several major donors; and other annual fundraising initiatives. In total, 5,386 donors contributed 16,667 gifts to the Foundation in 2025.
